Thirty-eight people have been killed and 10 injured after a passenger plane crashed in a military zone near the Iranian capital of Tehran, Iranian state television has reported. At least eight children were among those who died when the Sepahan Airlines propeller aircraft went down on Sunday with 48 people on board. The injured people were transferred to hospital in critical condition. The plane is believed to have developed engine problems 27 minutes after it took off from Tehran’s Mehrabad international airport at 9:45 a.m.(05.15 GMT), according to IRNA. The aircraft, a locally built version of the Russian Antonov An-140, had been heading to Iran’s eastern city of Tabas.
