MANCHESTER – EUROPE NEWS AGENCY (AVA) – Manchester-based Great British Doner (GBD) joined forces with PETA UK to celebrate World Kebab Day by giving away hundreds of free vegan kebabs. The event aimed to promote plant-based eating while showcasing a sustainable alternative to the traditional kebab.
Speaking after the event, Bilal Korkut, senior executive at Great British Doner, said that the idea of vegan doner was once considered impossible by many.
"If someone had shown me this photo a few years ago, I probably wouldn't have believed it," Korkut said. "When I first came up with the idea of serving vegan doner on a traditional kebab spit, many people said, 'It will never work,' 'Who would eat that?' or 'You're wasting your time.' To many, the idea simply sounded crazy."
Korkut said the same idea has now become something that brings people together.

"Today, together with PETA UK, we celebrated World Kebab Day by giving away hundreds of free vegan kebabs. An idea that once seemed impossible has become something that unites people," he said.
Emphasising that Great British Doner has never been afraid to challenge convention, Korkut added: "We're still only at the beginning of our journey, but days like today remind me that we're heading in the right direction. I'd like to thank PETA UK, my incredible team who believed in this vision, and everyone who joined us to support the event."
The celebration took place at Barton Arcade in central Manchester and attracted strong public interest, with hundreds of visitors attending to mark World Kebab Day while sampling the company's plant-based vegan doner.
