Blast in southeastern Hakkari province deadliest in renewed violence. Sixteen soldiers were martyred and six wounded in Sunday’s attack by PKK terrorists in Daglica, the Turkish military announced Monday. In the deadliest attack on security forces since the PKK violence surged at the end of July, terrorists targeted two armored vehicles with roadside bombs between Daglica and Yuksekova in the southeastern province of Hakkari, which borders Iraq and Iran. "Sixteen of our hero comrades-in-arms became martyrs," the Chief of the General Staff’s office said in a statement. "Six of our hero comrade-in-arms are wounded but not in a fatal way. They are being treated in hospital now." The statement went on to detail Monday air attacks by three F-4 and four F-16 jets against 23 PKK targets. The military offered its condolences to the families of the dead soldiers.
