Enfield Council has launched an immediate review of its waste collection services as it considers bringing back weekly bin collections to create cleaner streets, increase recycling rates and tackle fly-tipping.

Council Leader Cllr Alessandro Georgiou has commissioned the review as part of the authority's commitment to improving the borough's environment and making waste services simpler and more effective for residents.

The review will examine the best options for moving from fortnightly to weekly collections of both recycling and general household waste. It will also assess the operational changes required, including collection routes, vehicle capacity, costs and environmental impacts.

Enfield's current recycling rate stands at 33 per cent, well below the council's target of 50 per cent. The proposed changes are intended to encourage more recycling, reduce waste contamination and improve overall service delivery.

Cllr Georgiou said residents wanted cleaner streets, less fly-tipping and more reliable services.

"Residents expect cleaner streets, less fly-tipping and services they can rely on. They also want to see increased recycling and for processes to be simpler. That's why we're exploring the best options for introducing weekly bin collections to address these priorities."

He added that creating a cleaner Enfield remains one of the council's key priorities.

"Moving to weekly collections will require investment, but residents are clear they want cleaner neighbourhoods. By increasing recycling, reducing contamination and making the service easier to use, we can deliver real benefits for both residents and the environment."
