AVRUPA TIMES/LONDON, October 20, 2025 — Türkiye marks the 102nd anniversary of the founding of the Republic, established by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk on October 29, 1923, with celebrations in London organized by the Atatürkist Thought Association of the United Kingdom (IADD). The Republic was declared after a period of extraordinary national struggle. Following the 1919–1923 Turkish War of Independence against foreign occupation, the abolition of the Ottoman Sultanate in 1922 paved the way for the establishment of a modern, secular, democratic state. Atatürk’s leadership laid the foundations of a republic committed to law, equality, and progress.
The London gala will feature journalist and TV producer Zafer Arapkirli as the guest of honor, who will discuss the historical significance of the Republic and its relevance in today’s world. The evening will include music performances by Özgür Tandoğan and Sel Trio (Saygın Akbudak, Erdal Yapıcı, Levent Caner) and a dance show by Logo Dance Academy, hosted by Tan Livaneli.
