Vatan Öz, President of the European Turkish Journalists Association UK, has issued a statement of support for Fethiye Mayor Alim Karaca. The statement reads as follows:
“We learned with deep sorrow and outrage about the armed attack carried out against Fethiye Mayor Alim Karaca. Our greatest consolation is that Mr. Alim Karaca, whose achievements in serving our homeland we proudly follow and appreciate from Europe, is reported to be in good health.
As European Turks, we clearly state that we strongly condemn this heinous armed attack targeting democracy, the rule of law, and social peace, as well as the gunman and all dark forces behind it.
We expect the relevant authorities to fully investigate the incident, and to swiftly apprehend both the perpetrator and those who orchestrated the attack, ensuring that all legal penalties are applied without exception.
In these difficult days, we stand by Fethiye Mayor Alim Karaca. We extend our best wishes for a speedy recovery and send him our heartfelt get-well wishes.”
