Parking enforcement boosted with more officers on patrol in Enfield

Enfield Council has stepped up efforts to tackle illegal parking by increasing the number of Civil Enforcement Officers (CEOs) patrolling the borough’s streets. Cllr Ergin Erbil, Leader of Enfield Council, met parking CEOs at Enfield Civic Centre on Monday 4 August, and joined them on patrol.  The Council has increased the number of CEOs employed from 36 to 45. A further five officers will be recruited shortly to bring the total to 50. The number of CEOs on patrol on the borough’s streets from Monday to Saturday has now risen from 18 to 24, ensuring greater coverage across Enfield. Cllr Ergin Erbil said: “We have listened to our residents’ concerns, particularly from parents pushing children in prams, wheelchair users and those with mobility issues, who are severely affected by illegal parking on footways. We have responded by recruiting more CEOs.

“We will also step-up patrols in areas where we see repeated parking offences.

“I was delighted to be invited to meet our CEOs, and to find out more about the important work they do to provide a safer Enfield for everyone.

“Unfortunately, CEOs often face verbal and sometimes physical abuse when carrying out their job. I would like to make it clear the Council will take the strongest possible action against anyone who assaults or abuses our CEOs while they are carrying out their duties.

“Assaults are always reported to the police for action.”

CEOs are employed to ensure parking restrictions in the borough are complied with, advise motorists if requested and issue Penalty Charge Notices (PCNs) if vehicles are parked illegally.

Residents are reminded to park legally to help keep traffic flowing, footways clear and ensure designated bays are available for those who need them. This helps create a safer and more accessible borough for everyone.
