AVRUPA AGENCY (AVA)- The Turkish Community Football Federation in England, together with the Education Counselor of the Embassy of Türkiye in London, the Education Attaché of the TRNC in London, the Council of Turkish Cypriot Associations in England-CTCA and the Turkish Schools Education Consortium in England, hosted the 19th of May Atatürk Commemoration Youth and Sports Day with pride and enthusiasm, as they do every year. The ceremony held in London, the capital of England, on Sunday, 18th of May 2025, between 12:30 and 14:30 at the New River Stadium Sports Centre included a Procession Walk, Folk Dance Show, Sports Competitions and Student Demonstrations. The 19th of May Cup - Football Final Match was played during the celebration ceremony. Organized in collaboration with the London Education Counselor, TRNC London Representative Office of Education Attaché, England Turkish Community Football Federation, England Turkish Cypriot Associations Council and England Turkish Language, Culture and Education Consortium, May 19 Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm and meaningful events in London.
The ceremony was held in London on Sunday, May 18, 2025, between 12:30 and 14:30 at the New River Stadium Sports Centre. GREAT RESPECT FOR ATATÜRK The event, held at the New River Stadium Sports Centre, one of the major sports venues in North London, began with a moment of silence and the National Anthem. The subsequent march brought the community together by giving a message of unity and solidarity. Participants respectfully commemorated Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of the Republic of Turkey, and once again expressed the deep devotion to the Turkish nation's struggle for independence.
In the opening part of the program; Turkish Community Football Federation President İrfan Davulcular, England Turkish Language, Culture and Education Consortium President Nuriye Mertcan, England Cyprus Turkish Associations Council President Kenan Nafi, TRNC London Representative Vice Consul İsmail Ali Şahinoğlu and Turkish Republic London Ambassador Osman Koray Ertaş made their speeches. In the speeches, the importance of protecting the fundamental values of the Republic was emphasized, while the historical unity spirit of the Turkish nation and the hope carried by the youth were brought to the fore. The program, which was also attended by the General Director of European and Foreign Relations of the Republic of Turkey Ministry of National Education Tuba Korkmaz, continued with the activities of our schools and associations. Cultural and sportive performances such as Cypriot folk dances, zeybek, harmandalı, poetry, choir, music recitals, taekwondo shows received great applause.
The football tournament organized as part of the event attracted great attention from both participants and spectators. At the end of the tournament, the successful teams received their cups and awards with great enthusiasm. Türkiye's Ambassador to London Osman Koray Ertaş: "We celebrated the 19th of May Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day with enthusiasm together with our youth. We remember Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and all the heroes of our War of Independence with gratitude and respect. It was a great feeling to celebrate the 106th anniversary of the 19th of May Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day with you in London in such an environment. We need to fill these stadiums.
