Roger Evans, GLA Conservative Group Spokesman for Policing, will call for the introduction of predictive crime mapping at the upcoming London Assembly Budget Meeting (5/3/13). Mr Evans will direct his request to Chief Constable Simon Parr of the Association of Chief Police Officers.
Predictive crime mapping takes historic crime data and models the likely locations of future criminal acts, allowing the police to target their officers and other resources to those areas. Predictive modelling is already used in the London Fire Brigade and the London Ambulance Service to help target deployments, and has been successfully used in large US cities.
Speaking before the meeting, Mr Evans said:
“Predictive Crime Mapping has proven to be extremely successful in other major world cities such as New York. In a time when we need to manage resources smartly, delivering more with less, it is all the more crucial we harness technology to help do this. I will be pushing for the implementation of this solution as a matter of urgency”
