The story I am about to tell is a sad one. It is about a fourteen years old girl who has hearing loss living in Edirne, Turkey. She has big hopes, aims and plans for the future. Approximately a year ago, five men aged between 76 and 24 had raped her repeatedly.  Although the diagnosis of her the court released them on the 4thApril 2012. Although the law requires the prosecutor and child protection office did not protect her.  During this time, she had been raped again and had become pregnant. She turned out be 14 weeks pregnant, past the legal limit to terminate a pregnancy, which is 10 weeks. She is waiting for the court’s decision to have an abortion and psychologically is not in a good state.

Members of the government discussed limiting the abortion rights in Turkey. The recent debates on women’s bodies and their rights were not respectful and worried for women in Turkey. Being a woman in Turkey has become even more difficult with the new changes and limitations on abortion. Women in Turkey have been subject to sexual and domestic violence.They have been left alone by the society and the government. As a result, many women who are victims of sexual and domestic violence are committed suicide mostly in rural areas of Turkey.

14 years old Z.K. needs protection as many others. We need to raise our voices to unfair situations and should not leave victims vulnerable.
