Enfield’s young athletes excelled once again in this year’s London Youth Games (LYG), culminating in a thrilling finals weekend at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park on 5 and 6 July. Team Enfield entered an impressive 23 competitions in the 2025 season, providing a diverse range of opportunities for young people to access and participate in sport and physical activity. Enfield’s team was ranked 15th place overall. Ten thousand young Londoners participated across 37 sports throughout the year, with the Jubilee Trophy awarded to the borough that accumulates the most points from their best scoring competitions.
Enfield excelled in multiple sports with 17 medals in total, accumulating 744 Jubilee points throughout the LYG season. Highlights included a silver medal in Table Tennis (female) and a bronze medal in Swimming (male). On 14th July, Enfield Council and GLL hosted a joint celebration of youth sport at the Dugdale Arts Centre to honour this season’s LYG medallists and all athletes who received awards from GLL’s Sport Foundation.
Special guests included the Leader of Enfield Council, Ergin Erbil, Councillor Sabri Ozaydin, the Cabinet Member for Environment and Placemaking, and former Team Enfield LYG athlete and now Olympic silver medallist, Desiree Henry. Team Enfield was presented with awards, which was followed by a Q&A session with Desiree.
Councillor Ozaydin said: “We are immensely proud of our young people for achieving such a great milestone so early on in their sporting journey. As a Council, we will support our young people’s aspirations and create a borough with endless opportunities in helping them reach their full potential.
The LYG is an annual, multi-sport event offering competitive sports opportunities for young people aged 10 to 18 years. Thousands of young Londoners take part, making it the largest annual youth sports event in Europe. There are 21 sports in the LYG, with over 30 competitions.
