'Record UCAS applications defy Labour's scaremongering'

Conservative Press Office sends a report to Avrupa times. "The application rate for young people from disadvantaged backgrounds has also risen to the highest ever on record at 19.5 per cent. This is despite Labour’s scaremongering claims that the Government’s reforms were “putting thousands of people off university”.

Universities and Science Minister, David Willetts, said:

“There are no financial barriers to higher education. Our reforms ensure well-funded universities while avoiding large cuts to student places or in the money available for teaching.

“Labour's fees policy puts all this at risk. There would be less financial support for poorer students, no benefits for poorer graduates and less resources for universities. That's a triple whammy.”
