For the first time in Turkish judicial history, a person has been sentenced to imprisonment for threatening and insulting someone on Twitter. The accused was given a five-month sentence by the İstanbul 18th High Criminal Court on Friday for threatening model Nilay Dorsa on Twitter. Furthermore, the court also ruled for a fine of TL 500 for another tweet in which Dorsa was insulted. However, the sentence has been commuted to five years of probation. The court ruling was the first in Turkish history in which a person was sentenced to prison for threatening someone over Twitter.
