Belgium's van Buyten retires

ANKARA (AA) - German champions Bayern Munich's experienced Belgian defender Daniel van Buyten has resigned from football. According to the statement on FIFA.com on Thursday, 36-year-old van Buyten decided to end his professional career despite receiving offers from German, French and Belgian clubs. Van Buyten, regarded as one of the best defenders in Belgium, played for Charleroi, Standard Liege, Olympique de Marseille, Manchester City, and Bayern Munich during his career. He scored 71 goals in 586 club matches and was capped 83 times for Belgium, scoring 11 goals for his country. He helped Bayern Munich win four Bundesliga titles, four German Cups, the Champions League title, and the Club World Cup.
