YAOUNDE, Cameroon (AA) - A hundred Turkish companies will participate in an export fair in Cameroon next month, the Turkish Embassy in capital Yaounde announced Thursday. Organized by the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce and the Turkish Embassy, the fair will run from September 24 to 27 in the capital. The embassy's commercial counsellor Gokhan Uskudar said: "We hope to establish bridges over economy and culture between the two nations."
According to the chamber, Turkey's food sector will be the main focus but the fair will also be open to the energy, medical, textile, cosmetic and electronic sectors.
A cultural "Turkish Week" is also being held, with art exhibitions, cuisine, concerts and folk dancing.
Trade between the two countries was worth $146 million in 2012. Turkey exports steel, salt, cement and flour to Cameroon while importing cocoa, timber, cotton and leather.
Turkish Airlines has been running daily seven hour flights to Yaounde since 2012.
