According to the Iran's Fars News Agency, during a ceremony for the victims of the Iran-Iraq War, Selami expressed that Iran will not be defeated in its enemies’ game, and said “Iran's security borders extend to the Eastern Mediterranean and Iran will not let its movements be stopped by its enemies.” Noting that “enemies” wanted to invade Iran, Selami stated "If our young people had not resisted for 8 years (during the Iran-Iraq War), today we would be in a situation like Iraq, Afghanistan, or Syria.” He expressed that Iran’s "enemies" do not want it to have a nuclear program.
