World Trade Organization (WTO) will select its new director-general, who will take office on September 1, tomorrow. Current Director General Pascal Lamy is expected to name the winner to the General Council of WTO tomorrow. The winner's name would be made public on Wednesday. 159 member states of the WTO began negotiating on April 2, 2013 for the election of the new director general. Brazilian Roberto Azevedo and Mexican Herminio Blanco are the most powerful competitors among the nine candidates. The appointment must be made by consensus.
Pascal Lamy served two consecutive terms since 2005 at the head of the WTO.
