Syrian rebels call for closure of airspace

Omar Abdullah, commander of Omar Mukhtar company of the Turkmen brigade under the Free Syrian Army (FSA), has stated, if the Syrian airspace is closed, the regime forces would lose their power. Dissidents who fight against the regime forces of Syria in the area of Turkmen Mountain in the Bayirbucak Turkmen region of Latakia still try to protect their region by keeping light arms and with limited capabilities. Omar Abdullah was one the first who joined the dissidents. He told Anadolu Agency (AA) that their capabilities were limited and despite that they were doing their utmost to protect their region.  He noted, they drove back regime forces about a year ago from the Turkmen Mountain region and since then, they never gave up their resistance and kept fighting for their country.      

He added, a continuing support was being extended to Assad from other countries and stated, "It is hard for us to fight against army of Assad with our limited arms and ammunition. At the moment, our major distress is that we do not have enough guns and bullets. Assad attacks us on by using fighter jets, tanks and mortar shells. There is also support comes in from other countries to him. On the other hand, we have light arms compared to his army's."      

He stated, Assad forces were not that strong when fighting on ground, yet air backed operations were providing a major supremacy to the regime, he said, "it takes just one day to defeat Assad army if the airspace is shut."
