AMMAN (AA) – Jordanian Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour on Monday denounced what he described as "barbaric" Israeli onslaught on the Gaza Strip, which killed at least 1851 Palestinians and injured more than 9500 others. "Our nation feels ashamed of this aggression," Ensour said at a press conference in Amman on Monday. He described the ongoing Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip as "barbaric" and "unprecedented". The Jordanian premier, however, said that his country will not take any escalatory measures against Israel without thoroughly calculating their ramifications. Israel has been pounding the blockaded strip – home to 1.8 million people – with the stated aim of halting rocket fire. Gaza-based resistance factions, meanwhile, have continued to fire rockets at Israeli cities in response to the ongoing Israeli attacks. At least 64 Israeli soldiers have also been killed in battles with Palestinian fighters and three civilians by rocket fire. The offensive – codenamed "Operation Protective Edge," is the self-proclaimed Jewish state's third major offensive against the densely-populate Gaza Strip within the last six years.
