Israeli secret service gained detailed information on the content of Kerry’s telephone conversations last year with various counterparts in the region, the report said. Israeli authorities used this intelligence to strengthen their position in the Israeli-Palestinian talks, it added. Kerry mainly used an encrypted phone when he was at his villa in Georgetown but also used regular phones when he was outside or on the way, according to the weekly. His telephone conversations on regular phones were monitored by at least two foreign secret services including Israel's, Der Spiegel reported, based on information received from various intelligence sources. Russian and Chinese intelligence services were also suspected of spying on Kerry’s phone conversations, the weekly said. John Kerry carried out intensive diplomacy last year to revive the talks between Israeli and Palestinian negotiators after a nearly three-year hiatus. The talks resumed in Washington last July but failed in resulting in an Israeli-Palestinian peace deal by the April 29 deadline.
