Iraq's speaker urges Iraqiya members to quit government

Iraq's Sunni parliament speaker on Sunday urged cabinet members from the Iraqiya bloc to quit the government in the shortest possible time.

"The situation shows that there is no good will to solve our problems in the right way. Ministers who are members of the Iraqiya bloc must withdraw themselves from the Iraqi government," Osama al-Nujaifi said during a visit in Ramadi city in the western province of Al-Anbar to show solidarity with anti-government protestors.

"Protests should continue until the demands of the people are met," al-Nujaifi said.

In a press conference held following his talks with politicians, tribal chiefs and religious scholars to discuss the demands of the protestors, al-Nujaifi said there was no longer any benefit from being a part of the Maliki government.
