Hackney Museum exhibition to mark centenary of First World War

Marking the centenary of the start of the First World War, the exhibition presents some of the letters written to families and sweethearts at home in Hackney by two young soldiers who fought on the front line. The letters and objects give an intimate view into the experiences of the two servicemen and the impact that the war had on them and their families.

The letters form part of Hackney Archives collections. The Council-run Hackney Archives would like to hear from local people who have any personal items they would be willing to share.

The free exhibition runs until the 30 August 2014 and is one of the ways Hackney Council is marking the centenary of the First World War.

Hackney Museum is open Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday: 9.30am - 5.30pm. Thursday: 9.30am - 8pm, Saturday: 10am - 5pm. Closed: Sunday, Monday and Bank Holidays.
