Enfield residents will mark the 70th Anniversary of Victory in Europe

Enfield Celebrates VE Day. Enfield residents will have a chance to step back to the 1940s next week as two fantastic musical events mark the 70th Anniversary of Victory in Europe (VE) Day. Musical tributes will take place on 8 May when a free VE Day Celebration Performance takes place at 12.30pm at Fountain Island in Enfield Town featuring the English Jazz Orchestra. There will also be a chance to see some classic cars from 40s provided by the Whitewebbs Museum of Transport.  At 3pm on the same day, North London Brass will be performing 1940s classics in the bandstand at Broomfield Park, Alderman’s Hill, N13, this will begin after the national two minutes silence being held to remember the millions who who died during World War Two.

The Leader of Enfield Council, Cllr Doug Taylor said “On 8 May 1945 the people of Enfield, along with millions of others throughout the country, celebrated the end of World War Two in Europe.

“Music filled the streets in celebration, so these events are to capture that feeling of joy that came at the end of more than five years of conflict, and also to remember those who lost their lives and the fortitude of the everyday men and women who lived through one of the darkest periods of the world’s history.”
