Real Madrid sign Costa Rican goalkeeper Navas

Costa Rican goalkeeper, Navas, who arrived in Madrid Monday completed his medical checks today. At the club's press conference, Navas, who was purchased for €10 million transfer fee from another La Liga side Levante, said he thanked God that his childhood dream came true. "I'm very excited. I'm thrilled to give my best to Real Madrid. I will be doing what I have always dreamed of," he added. After the speech, he posed with a number 13 jersey with his name on it. Real Madrid President Florentino Perez stated, "Navas received offers from many significant clubs but he wanted to play for Real Madrid." Perez emphasized that Navas is the first Costa Rican footballer in the club's history and pointed out that Navas was one of the candidates for 2014 FIFA World Cup Golden Glove award by drawing attention to the many saves he made during the tournament. 27-year-old Navas will compete against two experienced goalkeepers Iker Casillas and Diego Lopez. The Spanish press speculate that either Diego Lopez or Iker Casillas will leave the club soon. 

Last week Real Madrid's Italian Head Coach, Carlo Ancelotti said that Casillas will be in the starting 11 for the UEFA Super Cup match kicking off on August 12 against Sevilla and added that they will see what will happen then.

Meanwhile Costa Ricans celebrated Navas' transfer to Real Madrid. Costa Rican President Luis Guillermo Solis said, "It's an honor for the recognition of our country and football. Navas' transfer to Real Madrid is a signal of high quality and professionalism and it confirms that he's one of the best goalkeepers in the world."
