UN ignores alleged peace plan for Syria

The UN stated on Thursday that they rejected the existence of "New Syria peace plan", an alleged plan published by Asharq Alawsat newspaper for a solution to end the Syria conflict. According to a statement released from the UN, neither Secretary General of the United Nations (UN) Ban Ki-moon nor UN Special envoy for Syria, Lakhdar Brahimi, were aware about the plan. It was stressed in the statement that they did not have any ideas about the alleged plan and underlined that Brahimi keeps holding negotiations with both sides in Syria for a peaceful solution. The article of Asharq Alawsat newspaper explains the alleged plan for a peaceful solution in details as it asks for the creation of a 140-member senate body tasked with leading the dialogue process between the regime and the opposition during a transitional period.
