As eight civil servants and soldiers kidnapped by the PKK are being released, eight others were abducted in the 1990's also wait in hopeful anticipation, Turkey's main opposition party claims. CHP member of Parliament from Istanbul, Melda Onur, has proposed that an investigation be launched regarding the fates of the soldiers, some of whom have been deemed missing, who were abducted by the PKK in the southeast of Turkey over various dates starting in 1992. Onur said that the release of the 8 publics had boosted the hopes of families who have not received news of their members for 20 years.
