Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan has attended the funeral of a popular Turkish musician, Murat Gogebakan, who also composed his current presidential election campaign song. Gogebakan died of a heart attack in Istanbul early Thursday; his funeral took place in Istanbul’s Fatih Mosque and was attended by a number of Turkish officials. The 46-year-old singer had been undergoing leukaemia treatment since 2009 and had been in intensive care for the past 10 days. Erdogan had visited the performer in his house on July 4. Gogebakan will be buried in Turkey’s southern province of Adana, his hometown, on Saturday.
He was born in 1968 and studied music in Ankara State Conservatoire. The performer had won many awards, including best singer of the year 1996 and also best-selling album of 1996.
