Baby elephant at Whipsnade Zoo in Dunstable gets special paddling pool

Recent warm weather had prompted the Zoo’s elephant keepers to buy the big, brightly coloured pool for young Max and allow him to join in the summer fun. The baby Asian elephant was born last October and his birth was captured by the ITV documentary ‘The Zoo’, which airs tonight at 8pm. The series aims to give viewers behind-the-scenes insights into the lives of the Zoo’s animals and keepers. It captured Max’s early life. Head Elephant Keeper Lee Sambrook said: “Bath time is one of Max’s favourite activities so we knew he’d love his own paddling pool to splash around in. “Having a film crew following us during Max’s first few months was an amazing opportunity to show the public how incredible our elephants are and why breeding and protecting this endangered species is so important.”
