Turkish police captured internationally wanted drug dealer Cumhur Yakut at his house in Istanbul on Friday night. Interpol has been hunting Cumhur Yakut, or the "Drug Baron", with a red notice for 13 years. Acting on a tip-off that 63-year-old Yakut recently sneaked into Turkey illegally, police followed him for three months, and finally captured him at his villa in the Sariyer district of Istanbul. The police operation was backed by helicopters and special forces unit. Yakut, who broke his leg while trying to escape by jumping off the walls of his villa's garden, was taken to hospital, and then sent to Police Department.
Yakut is on the fourth line in the drug dealers list which was prepared during former US president Bush.
He has been wanted for seven separate crimes including trafficking 520 kg of heroin in Greece, 30 kg of heroin in Van, 316 kg of heroin in Istanbul and 64 kg of heroin in Mersin.
Interpol was requesting him with a red notice for four separate crimes.
