Thomas and William Daniell’s Oriental Scenery , the greatest book of hand-coloured views of India ever produced, achieved £337,250. Today’s London auction of a private collection of Fine Travel and Plate Books achieved £2,496,940 ($3,787,858), against a pre-sale estimate of £1.3-£1.9million. Of the ten works which achieved the highest prices at auction, six of them established new world records for the books at auction. The sale was led by a rare, complete copy of Thomas and William Daniell’s Oriental Scenery, the greatest book of hand-coloured views of India ever produced which sold for £337,250 (est. £150,000-250,000).
