Sezen Aksu returns to London

Since her last London concert, Sezen Aksu, in addition to giving numerous concert in Turkey, has performed in countries such as France, Norway,  Germany, The Netherlands, and Switzerland. In March 2013 she will give concerts in Toronto Canada and Melbourne Australia.  Other projects have included singing on Orhan Gencebay's Tribute Album, and lending her voice to the soundtrack of Ferhan Ozpetek’s  2012 film Magnifica Presenza.

In November Sezen Aksu appeared in an exclusive 3-hour long interview with Saba Tümer on Show TV where she talked revealingly about her life story and performed her songs in a relaxed and intimate setting in her studio.

At the end of 2012 Sezen Aksu released a DVD of one of her biggest previous projects, Turkiye Sarkilari - Songs of Turkey. Performed in 2002 with a choir of 174 people in some of Turkey’s biggest venues, Turkiye Sarkilari presented Greek, Jewish, Armenian, Kurdish, Turkish, Sufi, and other musical traditions within Turkey. Ten years later the DVD is a testament to this groundbreaking work in the history of Turkish music.

Concert organiser Sebastian Merrick says, “There are few artists in the world who have the personality and presence to fill the stage at the Royal Albert Hall; Sezen Aksu is one of them. This will be an unforgettable event in a magnificent atmosphere. The Royal Albert Hall is the natural venue for a legend such as Sezen Aksu. Even though it is a large auditorium, when Sezen takes to the stage she has the gift to make you feel as if you are right in her living room.”

For now Sezen Aksu is preparing her summer programme, so fans in London and from all over the United Kingdom can expect to hear her best loved and new work. Tickets for the concert go on sale at 9.00am on Thursday 21 February. The Royal Albert Hall does not offer VIP tickets but seats at the front and the private boxes for which the Hall is so famous are expected to be snapped up quickly. Sezen Aksu has a close connection with London, which she enjoys visiting.

Organised once again by promoters Como No and Kazum, the concert is sponsored by Ersan & Co. Concert Tickets will be available from the Royal Albert Hall website www.royalalberthall.com and ticket office +44 (0)20 7589 8212 from 21 February.
