Nefes performed for BBC

Nefes performed five Turkish folk songs for BBC Radio 3's World Routes programme and the broadcast last night can be heard in the next six days on the following web page:  http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b01nj7fk

The Nefes Ensemble was founded in Autumn 2009 by the group’s organiser Gonul Ekmekci and performs folk music from all around Turkey, played on authentic instruments

The word ‘Nefes’ means breath, as well as being the name of a poetry/song type in Turkey. One of the group’s key aims has been to sing the folk songs in their authentic forms, respecting the regional details as much as possible. Turkey has a vast musical wealth, diverse both in form and content.

Nefes wellcomes singers and players from all cultural backgrounds
