Kids have a great time at Islington Playday 2014

The free family event, organised by playworkers from all 12 Islington adventure playgrounds, was held on 6 August at Paradise Park, N7. 1800 people attended and all ages were catered for. The London Fire Brigade also attended the event, with children invited to explore a working fire engine and showed how to work a real fire hose. Cllr Richard Greening Deputy Mayor who attended the event said: “It's been a great day and good to see the children enjoying themselves. "The day is about bringing together families and celebrating play and the opportunities for play in Islington. Playing outdoors can help children to develop self-confidence and social skills, as well as keep healthy. "It is also a great showcase for the amazing work that the adventure playgrounds do and will encourage parents to register their children." Oneyka 9 said: "I am so happy to be here today. "I've done all sorts of activities and my favourite so far is the zip wire. I can't wait for next year's." Anita Grant CEO of Islington Play Association said "Play is every child's right as enshrined in the UN convention on the rights of the child and the Islington partnership is at the forefront of ensuring that children get the freedom and opportunity to explore their world through freely chosen, intrinsically motivated play to enable them to fulfil their potential, build their resilience and be happy.

Playday is a national celebration of children’s right to play. The fun-packed day celebrated the free play opportunities all children in Islington can access at their local Adventure Playground all year round and the rest of the summer holidays.

The event in Islington was organised through the partnership of Islington Council’s Play & Youth Service and Islington Play Association.

Other partners included the Holloway cluster of Children Centres, Family First, the Hyde Group, Greenspace team, Islington Working for Parents team, Freightliners Farm and Islington Red Watch Fire Brigade .
