Drawings of the summer catch in Sivrice, a small fishing village on the northern Aegean coast of Turkey. Sivrice is a small, vibrant fishing village on the shore of the Aegean Sea. The community is now under threat as large trawling fleets have begun to move in, taking away much of their traditional catch – swordfish and yellowfin tuna.
This community has fished the waters between Sivrice and the nearby Greek island of Lesbos for hundreds, perhaps even thousands of years. However, they are now struggling to catch their usual small share of the fish upon which their livelihoods have traditionally depended.
