During the weekend of 15 and 16 March the vast majority of the network will be operating as there are no planned track works on the Bakerloo, Central, Circle, Jubilee, Victoria, Waterloo & City lines, and London Tramlink.
Transport for London (TfL) works hard to keep the majority of the transport network open and to provide information and alternative travel options. Londoners and visitors to the city are urged to “check before you travel,” particularly at weekends, and to allow extra journey time where necessary.
TfL helps passengers to plan ahead, get travel information on the move and work out the best way home at www.tfl.gov.uk/tfl/livetravelnews. The website also provides full bus replacement service information during works. Passengers can check before travelling using the following tools:
• Sign up for emails on our website tfl.gov.uk/emailupdates
• Go to www.tfl.gov.uk/check
• Information on posters, leaflets and “service information” boards at Tube stations
• The London Travel Info 24hrs telephone helpline: 0343 222 1234

Emirates Air Line
Emirates Air Line will close from Monday 17 to Sunday 23 March inclusive for essential annual maintenance works. The planned work that will be carried out is a statutory requirement and is in line with annual essential maintenance programmes that take place on cable cars around the world. However this closure period is shorter than others as a result of a busy schedule of different types of work being carried out simultaneously, and the continual maintenance that takes place throughout the year.
The nature of the work means that daylight hours are needed to deliver this safely. It will include electrical testing, comprehensive weight testing for each of the 36 cabins and a full inspection of the sheave wheels that the cable passes through at the top of the three helix towers.
London Underground
The District line will be suspended all weekend between Aldgate East and Bromley-By-Bow due to Crossrail work at Whitechapel.
The Hammersmith & City line will be suspended all weekend between Moorgate and Barking due to Crossrail work at Whitechapel.
The Metropolitan line will be suspended all weekend between Wembley Park and Northwood/Uxbridge owing to track replacement at Preston Road and Eastcote and drainage improvement works at Hillingdon.
The Northern line will be suspended early on Sunday morning until about 8.30am southbound and 9am northbound between Camden Town and Edgware while new signalling is tested.
The Piccadilly line will be suspended between South Harrow and Uxbridge owing to track replacement at Eastcote and drainage improvements works at Hillingdon.
Westbound Piccadilly line trains will not stop at Covent Garden station all weekend, while two lifts are replaced. While the lifts are replaced this will occur every weekend and Covent Garden station will be exit only at all times. Customers will be able to use Leicester Square or Charing Cross stations, both of which are a short signposted walk away from Covent Garden.
Work on two of the four lifts started on 24 February 2014 and will last for approximately ten months. The replacement work will require engineers to completely remove the existing lift cars as well as replace all of the structural, mechanical and electrical parts. Work to modify the steel structure work within the lift shaft is also required, adding to the complexity of the work. Work on the remaining two lifts will take place from February 2015.
