He adapted brilliantly to London art culture and patterns of patronage, creating portraits and pictures of subjects that proved to be highly desirable throughout society. The Royal Academy of Arts will close early to the public on Wednesday 23 May at 12pm and on Wednesday 30 May at 1pm.
