Enfield Labour welcomes the completion of A10 average speed cameras extension.

Enfield Labour is celebrating the news that Transport for London (TfL) have confirmed the program to extend the average speed cameras along the A10 Great Cambridge Road from the Southbury Road junction to the North Circular.

Welcoming the news, Cllr Ergin Erbil, the leader of Enfield’s Labour council said “This is a huge milestone in our mission for a safer Enfield. I’d like to pay tribute to the local residents whose tireless campaigning has finally paid off, to Joanne McCartney our Labour London Assembly Member and the Labour Mayor of London, who have worked to put funding together for TfL to put these cameras in place. This means that all from the M25 down to the North Circular, we now have average speed cameras in place. We’re cracking down on hooligans who come to Enfield to joyride along our roads. We won’t tolerate reckless behaviour on our roads. We also secured a high court injunction to prevent car meets in our borough, and a couple of months ago we saw our first convictions for breaching that injunction. The two people found guilty weren’t local, they had come from Oxfordshire and Warwickshire. They’d come to spend the early hours of the morning racing along Crews Hill, endangering other drivers and creating a nuisance for local residents. It’s unacceptable and it won’t be tolerated in Enfield under Labour.

Let me be clear: it was Enfield Labour that secured these speed cameras, and it’s Enfield Labour that is serious about making our streets safer for drivers and for pedestrians. It’s our Labour run council, working with our Labour Assembly Member Joanne McCartney and our Labour Mayor of London, using funding from our Labour Government that has finally got this project over the line.

The Enfield Tories may try and claim credit for this, while also campaigning against our consultation to lower speed limits on residential roads, calling it a war on motorists. They’re on the side of the hooligans and the boy racers who make our streets unsafe for everyone. We’re on the side of local people who want to be free of this nuisance, be they pedestrian or driver.”
