'EMBRACING PALESTINIAN CASE A COMMON CAUSE FOR ALL MUSLIMS'

Following are highlights from President Erdoğan’s speech at the Symposium of Jerusalem Platform held in İstanbul:

 It is not only the duty of unarmed Palestinian children to protect Al-Aqsa Mosque, the first Qibla of all Muslims. Embracing the Palestinian case and protecting Jerusalem is a common cause for all Muslims.

 We expect the occupied Palestinian territory to be returned to its historical owners. We will not remain silent in the face of actions aimed at restricting Muslim worship and harming the sanctity of Al-Aqsa Mosque.

 We will continue to support Jerusalem with all our means as we have done so far. We will work with might and main to protect Palestine and the sanctity of Al-Aqsa Mosque.

 There is an order of oppression and persecution in Palestine. This injustice has prevailed for more than half a century before the eyes of the whole world.

 Unless the current situation changes, permanent peace cannot be ensured. Such extortion of rights underlies many problems. UN resolutions were not sufficient to resolve the injustice. None of these resolutions is applied in the current world system where the law of the powerful prevails over the supremacy of the law.

 Policies of oppression, isolation and discrimination have been pursued since 1948. I think the Palestinian issue became a litmus paper for the UN Security Council.

 The region will not find peace until the wound in the Middle East is treated.

 I find the recent arguments on call for prayers dangerous. This practice is offensive not only for the Palestinians, but for all Muslims. We have communicated with the Israeli officials our concerns on the kind of dangerous consequences this might have, if such a bill is enacted.

 The only way to achieve lasting peace in the Middle East is to establish an independent, sovereign Palestinian state with the capital, East Jerusalem, based on the borders of 1967. It is imperative for the international community to increase its support for Palestine.

 Nearly a million people have lost their lives in Syria until now. These deaths continue without discrimination between children, women and men. What does the UN do? We waited, but we finally had to intervene in Syria alongside the Free Syrian Army. We are there to ensure justice and put an end to the reign of the oppressor Al-Assad.

 There is a UNSC created under the conditions of World War II, those conditions have changed now. If the United Nations is going to establish justice, all belief groups around the world and all the continents must be represented there. I do not expect any justice from the United Nations the way it is.

 On July 15th, the nation showed that modern weapons did not penetrate humankind. 248 people were martyred and 2 thousand 193 were wounded. The FETO, however, did not and will never reach its goals in this country.
