The drone attacked suspected Al-Qaeda sites in the province's Al-Mahfad district, the source said, without providing further details. It remains unclear whether the attack resulted in any casualties. Al-Qaeda captured Abyan in 2012, but the Yemeni army subsequently managed to retake the province with the help of local vigilantes. Nevertheless, Al-Qaeda remains active in several districts of Abyan, from which it continues to stage sporadic attacks on army and police targets.
