Football: FIFA announces nominees for World XI 2015

Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Barcelona feature heavily among 55-player list

GENEVA (AVRUPA TIMES) FIFA on Thursday announced 55 nominees from which to choose 11 players of the year.

 

Nearly 25,000 professional footballers from about 70 different countries voted for 55 players to select one goalkeeper, four defenders, three midfielders and three forwards for the 2015 World XI., FIFA said.

 

Among the 55 players, there are 12 players from Real Madrid, 11 from Bayern Munich and 10 from Barcelona.

 

The 55-player shortlist: (home country/club)

 

Goalkeepers (5): Gianluigi Buffon (Italy/Juventus), Iker Casillas (Spain/FC Porto), David De Gea (Spain/Manchester United), Keylor Navas (Costa Rica/Real Madrid) and Manuel Neuer (Germany/FC Bayern Munich).

The final FIFA FIFPro World XI will be announced at the FIFA Ballon d’Or award ceremony at the Kongresshaus in Zurich on Jan. 11.
