Euroleague Basketball President Dejan Bodiroga opened proceedings with a look back at the 2025-26 campaign

Vatan Oz/London-Euroleague Basketball held its annual coaches' meeting this week, bringing head coaches from across the competition together for two days of review and forward planning as the league transitions from the season just completed into 2026-27.Euroleague Basketball President Dejan Bodiroga opened proceedings with a look back at the 2025-26 campaign, praising the coaches for their role in the competition's continued growth.

"I would like to welcome you all and thank you for joining our Annual Meeting," said Bodiroga. "First of all, I would like to congratulate Coach [Georgios] Bartzokas on winning this year's EuroLeague title, and I would also like to personally thank all of you for your contribution to delivering another outstanding season. Coaches are a vital part of the EuroLeague family and play a fundamental role in our success. Together, we are committed to building unity and continuing to move forward as one."

"As you can see, the EuroLeague is strong, and we are working every day to make it even stronger, both on and off the court. I wish you all a very productive and successful meeting. Today, our CEO will share more about the excellent work being done across the organization and the exciting plans we have for the future. This will be followed by our traditional working session with the officiating department, whose professionalism, commitment, and continuous pursuit of improvement have been instrumental in raising the standard of officiating across our competitions season after season. We are fully committed to continuing our journey, improving every season, and making the EuroLeague stronger year after year."

Euroleague Basketball CEO Chus Bueno then took coaches through his vision for the league's future.

"When I joined Euroleague Basketball less than five months ago, we established three clear strategic priorities: increasing the value of our assets, accelerating business growth, and strengthening the league's role at the heart of the European basketball ecosystem. Our first priority was to understand and unlock the true value of the league and its clubs. That process resulted in a €1.4 billion valuation for Euroleague Basketball, which has already been validated by strong interest from investors and cities eager to become franchises as part of our expansion.

"The second priority is transforming our business through EuroLeague+, our new direct-to-consumer platform that will bring together ticketing, streaming, merchandise, and fan engagement into a single digital ecosystem, while significantly expanding our investment in content, technology, and data capabilities.

"Our third priority is to strengthen collaboration across the entire basketball ecosystem, working closely with domestic leagues, international governing bodies, clubs, and other stakeholders. We firmly believe that collaboration, not fragmentation, is the key to creating sustainable value and taking European basketball to a new commercial level.

"Our ambition is clear: to evolve Euroleague Basketball from one of the world's premier sporting competitions into a leading sports and entertainment business that creates lasting value for our clubs, our fans, our partners, and the entire European basketball ecosystem."

A central part of the agenda, as in past years, was an extended session with the league's officiating department, where coaches reviewed rule interpretations and discussed contentious in-game scenarios directly with senior refereeing staff.

"This meeting is always important," said Bartzokas. "Whenever we come to this meeting in Barcelona, there is something we can gain from this situation and something we can learn. It is always a good opportunity for us to see each other at a different level than in the whole year. Basically, we are competitors but right now, we are colleagues and that is always important."

Joan Penarroya, head coach of Partizan Mozzart Bet Belgrade, shared a similar sentiment: "I think it's very important to do this at the end of the season. Everyone is a bit more relaxed and has a better perspective. It is great to have these kinds of meetings to exchange ideas, to exchange experiences and to prepare for the next season and to keep improving. Because our sport, in the end, if it stands out for something, it's because it evolves every year. And an important part of that evolution depends on these kinds of meetings to implement everything that is discussed in the next season."

For Ibon Navarro, newly appointed head coach of Crvena Zvezda Meridianbet Belgrade, hearing directly from the refereeing committee brought added clarity ahead of his first season at the helm. "There will be some rules changes this season, so having those changes explained by the best in the business and do it the right way, with video examples, is very important. In the end, these are very important things you have to know, explain and tell your players in the best way you can. This is why it is so important to have this meeting [with the referees]," he said.

By the close of the session, the mood reflected both satisfaction with the season behind them and anticipation for the one ahead. With coaches once again central to the conversation, Euroleague Basketball used the meeting to reaffirm its approach: building the competition through ongoing dialogue with those leading it from the sidelines.

Chus Bueno, Euroleague Basketball CEO said:

"We are incredibly proud to bring together the best 52 clubs from across Europe in our competitions, representing the continent's most important basketball markets while continuing to open opportunities for emerging territories. The level of interest from clubs seeking to join our competitions has been extraordinary, reaffirming the strength of the Euroleague Basketball platform and the growing appeal of our long-term vision.

I would like to personally thank every club that has expressed its desire to become part of our family. While we have set the competition at 52 teams for this season to ensure the highest standards of quality and competitiveness, our expansion strategy is designed with the future in mind. We are building a platform that will welcome more clubs, more markets, and more fans, and I am confident that many of those who have shown interest today will have the opportunity to join us in the years ahead."

With regards to the franchise process, Bueno commented:

"We are thrilled by the strong level of interest we've seen in recent weeks from both clubs, investors and cities looking to become a EuroLeague franchise. They recognize that we have built a premium competition with the strongest club brands and fan bases in European basketball, backed by a proven business model with a fair asset valuation, a clear growth trajectory, and a unique ownership structure driven by the clubs themselves. They want to be part of that journey.

Since I joined the Euroleague and we implemented our new strategic vision and franchise plan, we have already validated a market valuation of €1.4 billion through offers received, doubling our valuation from last year. Based on the momentum we are seeing, we anticipate another doubling over the next two seasons, putting us on track to reach a €4 billion valuation within the next three to four years.

Last season, 37% of our shareholding clubs achieved financial sustainability. We expect that figure to exceed 70% within the next two to three years. This demonstrates that the traditional European basketball model is evolving into a more sustainable hybrid model, one that allows clubs to become financially stronger while preserving the competitiveness and sporting excellence that make European basketball unique."

On Euroleague Basketball’s strategic plan, he added:

“On July 7 in Barcelona, we will unveil our transformational vision for the future of European basketball to our shareholder clubs, leagues, and the media.

At the heart of this vision is EuroLeague+, a new digital platform designed to become the home of European basketball. EuroLeague+ will connect fans, clubs, and leagues through an integrated ecosystem of products and services, creating new opportunities for engagement, growth, and value across the sport.

With its beta version launching this September, EuroLeague+ represents a major milestone in our strategy to accelerate the digital transformation of European basketball and strengthen our connection with millions of fans around the world. These are truly exciting times for our sport."

Yıldırım also confirmed that important meetings were held in England regarding transfers.

“We will have reached agreements by June 30. However, we will not make any announcements at this stage,” he said.

“In the past, we suffered from interference in the process. There were people trying to disrupt negotiations, so this time we will wait before speaking publicly.”

“We Are Returning Stronger Than in 1998”

Confident about the club’s future plans, Yıldırım claimed the current project is stronger than the one launched during his first presidency era.

“We are returning from England with big news. We are coming back even stronger than in 1998. We are working very well right now and we have an excellent team,” he stated.

“A Different Process Began After July 3”

Yıldırım also referred to the controversial July 3 match-fixing investigations period, claiming Fenerbahçe was deliberately targeted through various operations.

“After July 3, a completely different process began. They saw Fenerbahçe as an obstacle. Through Ergenekon, Balyoz, Odatv and various operations, they tried to destroy Fenerbahçe. They tried to stop us, but they were unsuccessful,” he said.

Yıldırım’s remarks from London are expected to create significant discussion among Fenerbahçe supporters and the wider football community.

U18 FC Barcelona defeated U18 Real Madrid 85-77 in the final to claim the NextGen EuroLeague championship.

U18 FC Barcelona is the new adidas NextGen EuroLeague champion after edging out eternal rival U18 Real Madrid, 77-85, in a closely contested thriller at Telekom Center Athens on Sunday.

In a game played as the curtain-raiser to the EuroLeague Championship Game for the very first time, neither team led ever by more than 5 points until Barca’s added physicality proved decisive in the closing possessions. The Blaugrana claimed the title for the second time, and the first in ten years.

Nikola Kusturica was the chief inspiration, returning from injury to lead his team with a double-double of 20 points and 10 rebounds. Joaquim Boumtje-Boumtje added 17 points, while Jakob Siftar and Mohamed Dabone both scored 10. Egor Amosov paced Real with 16 points, Fabian Kaiser scored 14, Gunars Grinvalds netted 13 and Ilia Frolov contributed 11.

Three-pointers from Kusturica and Diego Ferreras gave Barca the early advantage, but 6 fast points from Grinvalds brought Real level, 8-8. Kayser and Kusturica traded triples to keep it close, before Siftar stepped up with 5 points, but Andrej Bjelic hit back from deep to help make it 22-24 after ten minutes.

Ousmane Diarra started the second quarter with a highlight reel dunk, but Boumtje-Boumtje answered with his first score to edge Barca back in front. Siftar stayed hot with a pair of close-range finishes, but Amosov’s three and Osa Hadi’s fastbreak layup in a 9-0 run sent Real back ahead, 36-31. Nil Poza’s triple changed the momentum, and Kusturica’s putback made it 38-39 at the break.

Amosov opened the second half hot with a threeball and a layup, but close-range scores from Dabone and Kusturica forced another tie, 43-43. Poza hit his second triple and Mohamed Keita scored 5 fast points for a 47-51 lead, before a long-range barrage from Amosov, Frolov, Bjelic and Boumtje-Boumtje gave Real a small advantage, 62-60, at the end of the third.

A low-scoring start to the final period led to Amosov’s three-point play immediately being bettered by 5 points for Kusturica, making it 67-68 heading into the final five minutes. Boumtje-Boumtje and Grinvalds traded three-point strikes, before Ferreras scored at the rim for a 72-77 advantage. Kusturica protected the lead from the foul line, but Kayser kept Real hoping with a three, 77-79. Ferreras added a layup, and Barca’s defense did the rest.

After 24 years, Turkey qualified for the 2026 World Cup, driven by Montella’s leadership and a new international vision.

It is the end of a long wait that lasted twenty-four years. Since the unforgettable third-place finish at the 2002 World Cup, Turkey had not experienced the excitement of the World Cup as a protagonist again. Today, however, that dream has finally become reality once more.

Qualification for the 2026 World Cup represents one of the most important moments in Turkish football over the last decades. An achievement built through planning, consistent work, and a new international mentality that has allowed the Turkish national team to become competitive again at the highest level.

Behind this journey is also the work of Italian coach Vincenzo Montella, who in a short time has become one of the symbols of Turkey’s football renaissance. With balance, tactical discipline, and great ability in managing the group, Montella succeeded in transforming a young and talented squad into a credible, modern, and ambitious national team.

Turkish fans are now dreaming of a new achievement similar to the one in 2002. Enthusiasm is growing every day not only in Turkey, but also in the United States, where major preparations are already underway ahead of the World Cup tournament. Thousands of supporters will arrive from Europe and Turkey to follow the national team and support Montella and his players during their World Cup journey.

In the United States, a large logistical and institutional organization surrounding the presence of the Turkish national team has already begun. An important role in this process is attributed to Çağrı Kanver, Vice President of the External Relations Council of the Turkish Football Federation and regional representative in the United States.

According to sources close to the federation, Kanver had already begun working with a clear vision two years ago, when İbrahim Ethem Hacıosmanoğlu was elected President of the Turkish Football Federation. The objective was clear: to prepare the international future of the national team and build a strong Turkish presence in the United States ahead of the 2026 World Cup.

Based mainly between New York City and Miami, Cagri Kanver is now considered one of the emerging figures in the landscape of international sports diplomacy. An entrepreneur active in real estate development, innovation, culture, and sports, he has contributed to strengthening the connections between Turkish football and the American continent.

His vision concerns not only the present of the national team, but above all the future of new generations. Through sports projects and international relations, Kanver has for years supported the discovery of young Turkish talents in the United States and across the American continent, convinced that modern football must increasingly embrace a global dimension.

According to people close to his projects, Kanver considers talent a heritage to be protected through modern infrastructure, international education, and global networks capable of creating new opportunities for young athletes.

Alongside sports, he also continues to invest in architecture, contemporary art, and cultural innovation, building a modern entrepreneurial model in which business, culture, and social development coexist within a single international vision.

Turkey’s qualification for the 2026 World Cup therefore represents much more than a sporting result. It is the symbol of a new generation, a new organization, and a new international mentality that looks to the future with ambition.

Twenty-four years after that historic night in 2002, the Turkish people are dreaming again. And this time, they want to experience the World Cup not only as protagonists, but as a possible surprise of world football.

The first female presenter of UEFA Champions League broadcasts

Murati made history in her country as the first female presenter to host UEFA Champions League broadcasts. For more than a decade, she has been a key figure of prime-time programming on Tring TV. This success earned her the nickname “Champions Girl,” which has since evolved into a strong personal brand.

What sets Eva Murati apart is not only her on-screen success. With a background in law, she brings analytical depth to her communication style. Her ability to convey the atmosphere of matches, the excitement of the crowd, and the emotional rhythm of the game places her beyond traditional sports presenting, representing a modern and dynamic narrative approach.

In an increasingly complex global communication environment, the role of media in maintaining intercultural balance has become more critical than ever.

With numerous diplomatic representatives expected to attend, this year’s ceremony will once again highlight the strategic importance of journalism in international dialogue. The event will be hosted by RAI journalist Roberto Ammendola.

Vatan Oz/London, April 5 (AVA) – Bilal Erdoğan, president of the Dünya Etnospor Birliği, was honored with an international plaque by the Italian Sports Press Union in recognition of his efforts to preserve and promote traditional sports and cultural heritage on a global scale. The award, presented during the 8th Etnospor Forum in Antalya, highlights growing international recognition of initiatives aimed at safeguarding ancestral sports as a vehicle for cultural continuity and intercultural dialogue.

Vatan Oz (LONDON, 24 December 2025) - Chelsea Football Club and Pegasus Airlines today announce a new global, multi-year partnership that sees Pegasus become the club’s Official Airline Partner. Extending across both men’s and women’s teams, the partnership brings together two dynamic organisations with a shared commitment to innovation, global growth and connecting people – whether through football or travel. Launching as a scheduled carrier in 2005, Pegasus Airlines has spent more than two decades making air travel accessible to millions through its cost-effective and digital-first business model. Today, serving 158 destinations in 55 countries, it is also among the world’s most profitable airlines, operating one of the youngest, most fuel-efficient fleets globally. Pegasus Airlines’ significant order of 200 new aircraft, together with its recent agreement to acquire Czech Airlines and its subsidiary Smartwings, marks a new chapter in Pegasus Airlines’ international growth strategy.

This partnership will harness the strength of Chelsea FC’s global footprint and worldwide fanbase to showcase Pegasus Airlines as it continues its expansion. Together, the two organisations will collaborate across key international markets, delivering innovative campaigns and experiences for supporters and customers around the world.
