Sarah Woodward plays the Duchess of York. Sarah won an Olivier Award for Best Supporting Actress for Artist Descending a Staircase (Duke of York’s) and a Clarence Derwent Award for Tom & Clem (Aldwych), and was nominated for a Tony Award for The Real Thing (Donmar, Broadway). Her recent stage credits include Love and Information (Royal Court), The Cherry Orchard (National Theatre) and Judgment Day (Almeida). Her film credits include Bright Young Things and I Capture the Castle. Graham Butler takes the role of Aumerle. Graham most recently starred in The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time at the Gielgud. He played Henry VI in Nick Bagnall’s 2013 productions of Shakespeare’s three Henry VI plays for Shakespeare’s Globe, and his other stage credits include Journey’s End (Duke of York’s) and The White Guard (National Theatre). Graham also has a recurring role in the Sky/Showtime TV series Penny Dreadful.
John of Gaunt will be played by William Gaunt. His recent stage credits include The Crucible (Old Vic), Exit the King (Theatre Royal, Bath), The Resistable Rise of Arturo Ui (Chichester, West End) and The Family Reunion (Donmar). William also won the Clarence Derwent Award for his role in Henry IV parts 1 and 2 at the Globe in 2010. He was formerly Artistic Director of Liverpool Playhouse, and his directing credits elsewhere include One for the Road (Lyric) and Macbeth (Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre).
Simon Godwin recently directed The Beaux’ Strategem, Man and Superman with Ralph Fiennes and Strange Interlude with Anne-Marie Duff for the National. His work for the Royal Court includes Anya Reiss’ The Acid Test, Lucy Kirkwood’s NSFW and Nick Payne’s Wanderlust. In 2012 he won the inaugural Burberry Award for an Emerging Director at the Evening Standard Awards.
Winner of the 2014 Clarence Derwent Award for his performance in Strange Interlude (National Theatre), Charles Edwards most recently starred in Blithe Spirit (West End, North American tour) opposite Angela Lansbury. He was nominated for an Evening Standard Award for Best Actor for his performance at the Globe as Benedick in Much Ado About Nothing and received another nomination in 2012 for his performance in This House (National Theatre). His screen credits include Downton Abbey, the BAFTA-nominated film Holy Flying Circus, Philomena and Mansfield Park.
