Kick back this autumn in Turkey's in-vogue holiday haven, Alacati

Explore Alacati offers no less than 29 hotels in the area providing something for all tastes at this town renowned for its chic ambience in a historical setting. Guests can relax at spa and wellness facilities nearby, put their feet up at the tranquil beaches peppering the coast, visit cultural sites and enjoy local produce and wines.

Located on the Cesme Peninsula near the city of Izmir, Alacati and its surrounding area is slowly making a name beyond Turkey for its unique charm. There are options galore to set the scene for a truly memorable holiday both within the pretty town itself and nearby. Alacati's cobbled streets are a pleasure to explore with trendy cafes and antique shops brimming full with finds.

Guests can bask in the great variety of spa and wellness treatments on offer from establishments that have taken advantage of the region's natural thermal waters on the Cesme peninsula. Many spa centres are stunningly located in soothing coves surrounded by the unmistakeable scent of the nearby pine forests while there are many enchanting bays to be explored on a relaxing boat trip in this popular sailing region.

There are stretches of pristine beach accessible from Alacati to take indulgent strolls along, the best-known being Altinkum translated simply as 'golden sands'. Travellers who like to keep active can ride the waves at what has become an international windsurfing centre or else try kitesurfing in the area’s brisk winds.

Culturally minded travellers can also immerse themselves in the nearby archaeological sites. Alacati is a short drive (1.5 hours) from the world-famous Ephesus, the largest collection of Roman remains east of the Mediterranean, with such iconic structures as the Library of Celsus, St John's Basilica and its Roman amphitheatre.

Alacati is also a gastronomic destination of repute with a wide array of local produce, wines and top-notch eateries. To celebrate the rich culinary traditions of the Aegean region, the town will host the International Vanishing Tastes Festival on 10-12 October this year. Recipes that have been lost or in danger of being lost will be revived via events, discussions with famous authors, competitions, food tastings and workshops held with well-known Turkish and international chefs with many dishes being prepared on the streets of the town. Europe’s largest open water fishing tournament, Alacati International Fishing Tournament, will also take place on 9-12 October.

Alacati is the perfect choice for a relaxed and homely holiday much of the year round in the distinctive ancient landscapes of the Aegean, at just over three hours flying time from the UK to the nearby city of Izmir.
