Obama discusses Egypt with UAE, Qatar leaders

Obama held separate phone conversations on Tuesday with Qatar’s Emir and the Crown Prince of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to discuss developments in Egypt.

US President Barack Obama on Tuesday held separate phone conversations with Qatar Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Zayed of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to discuss developments in Egypt.

"The President encouraged the UAE to underscore in its engagements with Egyptians the importance of avoiding violence and taking steps to enable dialogue and reconciliation," the White House said in a statement released about Obama's call with UAE Prince.

About Obama's call with Qatar's Emir, the White House stated Obama and Emir Tamim agreed that a political process that included participation by all parties and groups was critical for Egypt's stability.

Obama also conveyed his greetings for Ramadan to both leaders, said the statement.
