Turkish government has waived all university fees for qualified Syrian refugees who will begin classes at seven universities in March. These universities are Gaziantep University in the southeastern province of Gaziantep, Kilis 7 Aralık University in the southeastern province of Kilis, Harran University in the southeastern province of Şanlıurfa, Mustafa Kemal University in the southern province of Hatay, Korkut Ata University in the southern province of Osmaniye, Çukurova University in the southern province of Adana and Mersin University in the southern province of Mersin.
UNHCR reports that so far, 70 Bachelor's degree candidates and 10 Master's degree candidates from Adiyaman camp in southern Turkey have submitted applications.
Turkey currently shelters more than 141,000 Syrians in seven provinces who have fled the conflict in their country. UNHCR provides technical support to the government in assisting the refugees.
