Turkish dailies cover the disarray in Turkish main opposition after the poor results in Sunday's presidential election which was won by the ruling AK Party's candidate Recep Tayyip Erdogan, atrocities carried out by the extremist Islamic State militants against Ezidis in Iraq and the death of legendary chairman Suleyman Seba of Turkish football club Besiktas. SABAH focuses on the rows between the prominent party members of main opposition, People's Republican Party (CHP). On Tuesday, CHP deputy Emine Ulker Tarhan criticised the decision of the party leadership in nominating presidential candidate Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu who was not embraced by the party grassroots. The percentage of the vote he gained was lower than the sum of the vote in the local elections in March 30. VATAN and MILLIYET feature developments in Iraq when thousands of minority Ezidis fled their homes after an Islamic State offensive. Clashes between the Kurdish Peshmerga forces and IS militants in northern Iraq left many fleeing civilians stranded in Sinjar Mountain.
VATAN says "Weaponry from the West", referring to the military support from the Western countries to block the IS advance towards Kurdish region. According to the daily, the U.S. sent arms worth US$200 million to Kurdish forces and many European countries, including the U.K, France, Germany and Italy are sending military aid.
"My father's head was on Facebook," said MILLIYET. According to the newspaper, an Ezidi immigrant, Halef Nouro, told that he saw his father's beheaded photo on Facebook after running away and leaving his family behind.
Almost all Turkish dailies today pay tribute to Besiktas club chairman, Suleyman Seba who died aged 88. One of the most respected figures in Turkish sporting community, Seba's death sent shockwaves across the country. MILLIYET reads, "Legends do not die," while HABERTURK says "All colors are in grief".
A former Besiktas player, Suleyman Seba is widely regarded as one of the legends of the club mainly due to his devotionally gentleman attitude during his term as the chairman of the Istanbulite club between 1984-2000 and daily STAR describes him as "the father of Besiktas".
