Students at St Aloysius' College, Archway, were over the moon with some outstanding results. Takai Bunbury, 16 was celebrating eight A*s and two As and is going on to study three sciences and Maths for A-levels with the hope of reading medicine. He said: "I feel good and relieved, I worked hard for these results and am very happy with them. I can't wait to tell my mum and dad." His classmate Ahyial Hussain was delighted with his results of three As, four Bs and two Cs. "I am really happy with my results and I am looking to staring my apprenticeship in engineering with Troup, Bywaters and Anders," he said. At Mount Carmel Catholic Girls school, Archway, Olivia Smith gained an outstanding eight A* and 2 As. She said:" I worked really hard at my exams and am really pleased with my results. I'm hoping to read geography at Cambridge." Ms Nicole Haynes, acting Principal of Mount Carmel, said: "I am very happy with the girls' achievements and I look forward to helping the next year gain strong results again."
Islington Council Leader Cllr Richard Watts said: "It's excellent to see Islington students gain some top-class marks.
"It's our aim that all the schools in Islington provide the young people with the support they need to achieve the best they can.
"It's important that we help them go on to do things they really want whether it be further education or apprenticeships."
Islington girls also gained incredible results. Ella Jay-Osbourne from Elizabeth Garret School gained four A* five As and three Bs she said: "I am so happy with my results it will mean I can go on and do my A levels and follow my dream to become a vet."
Jo Dibb, headteacher at EGA said: "In a year where schools have experienced great turbulence in their GCSE results, EGA has maintained its high standards with so many girls achieving the top grades in every subject."
"We are so proud of the achievements of our students who have shown, once again, that they can achieve as highly as girls in any school in the country."
Cllr Joe Caluori, executive member for children and families said: "We are really pleased with the results and will continue to support the schools in helping the students achieve great marks."
