The scheme sees people with a range of disabilities running a social enterprise car wash for the council at the Palace Gardens multi-storey car park in Enfield. The project, delivered in partnership with employment specialists, Seetec, has created placements for people with disabilities and the chance of work experience and training. The car wash is in Palace Gardens Shopping Centre (Level 2) and runs between 9am and 5pm from Monday to Sunday and prices range from £6 for washing a small car to £35 for a full wash, valet and wax for a large vehicle. The Future Clean system is ecologically friendly and uses less than 500ml of filtered rain water to wash an average sized car. None of the water reaches the ground and all the cleaning products are biodegradable, meaning thousands of litres of water will be saved compared with conventional car washing schemes.
Cllr Chris Bond, Enfield Council's Cabinet Member for Environment went down to see the scheme in action this week, he said "I am delighted to hear that Future Clean has secured work for its first 10 employees.
"This scheme, which forms part of the Enfield 2020 Action Plan for sustainability, has so many benefits. Not only is it helping disabled people into employment, but it is also encouraging people into our town centre whilst using environmentally friendly materials to clean the cars.
"Now that these lucky 10 employees have moved on after finding permanent work through the Future Clean Scheme, it means we can fill these vacancies with more people and train them for work.
"It is an incredibly popular scheme, so when in Enfield Town why not pop in and get your car washed,"
