The pet's corner and hospital in Trent Park is part funded by Enfield Council, and run on its behalf by the Wildlife Rescue and Ambulance Service charity which is currently caring for around 200 wild and tame creatures including pheasants, deer, foxes, seagulls, goats, birds of prey, turkeys, rabbits and guinea pigs.
The Residents' Priority Fund gives local people a unique opportunity to work with their ward Councillors and gain funding for projects that address community need and enhance their neighbourhoods.
The ambulance will help the animal hospital with its wildlife rescues when the organisation is called out to assist local wildlife when it finds itself in difficulty.
This service is run by June and Barry Smitherman, who founded the Charity in 1985, and have continued their work voluntarily ever since. In 2002 they took over Enfield Council's Pet Corner Service.
Barry and June won a 'Local Heroes' award in 1999 for the good work they do, and were both awarded with MBEs in the Queen's New Year's Honours List 2005 for services to animal welfare.
The Charity is officially recognised and frequently called upon by the RSPCA, Metropolitan, Hertfordshire and Essex police, Broxbourne Council, Lee Valley Regional Park, the People's Dispensary For Sick Animals and other organisations.
Cllr Bambos Charalambous, Cabinet Member for Localism said "The Trent Park animal hospital has rescued untold numbers of wild animals in Trent Park and even further afield over the years.
"Enfield Council is delighted to be able to help grant this Residents Priority Fund money to buy the ambulance, to assist them in their good work to rescue and save even more animals."
