World Pride

This weekend, in London, saw thousands celebrate World Pride. One of the many who took part in the pride march was Ibrahim Can. For those of you who do not know, this was the boyfriend of Ahmet Yildiz. Ahmet was killed in what is suspected to be Turkey's very first gay honour killing.

Ahmet was only 26 years old when he died in Istanbul in 2008. He had a promising life in front of him and had almost finished his training as a physics teacher. After Ahmet's tragic death, Ibrahim became a big campaigner for gay rights. All over the world there is still a lot of homophobia, taking part in the marches shows that people are standing up for equality and rights for LGBT people. There is still a long way to go.

I think there needs to be more education out there. It's insane that people are being condemned because of their sexuality. Who you fall in love with is out of your control. In centuries to come, people will be absolutely shocked that outrage over someone's sexuality ever took place.
